There is no denying that Pitchfork Media is the 800 lb. gorilla in the room when it comes to music criticism on the Internet. I would be lying if I said the site's reviews did not tick me off on a regular basis. And from time to time, they also give a glowing review that I completely disagree with, but the vast majority of their recommended albums are in line with mine.
To take advantage of Pitchfork's filtering, I've put this playlist together. It contains stand-out tracks from albums released in 2005 and 2006 that Pitchfork has given a rating of 8.0 or higher. The result is 3 hours worth of some of the best music released in the last two years. If you're not familiar with newer music, you can put this playlist on at a party to impress your music snob friends. You're also sure to discover something you'll love in the process. And without having to read the overwrought elitism that Pitchfork is known for.
Pitchfork was started in 1995 by a recent high school graduate named Ryan Schreiber. Originally called Turntable, the site changed it's name to Pitchfork in 1996; the name being inspired by Tony Montana's tattoo in the the film Scarface.
Today Pitchfork enjoys well over a million unique visitors per month.
