4:20... Or Close Enough

No, no. Not another song about the famous 4:20 and it's attachment to drugs... This is just a playlist dedicated to some quality songs that just happen to run around 4 minutes and 20 seconds long.

Gangster's Paradise

May 2007: Loosely inspired by Pulp Fiction, The Godfather trilogy, Goodfellas, Snatch, The Black Donnellys, Scarface, Boondock Saints, Reservoir Dogs et al.

01. alexander, our older brother, set out for a great adventure.
02. Oh, Mr. Blonde. [Reservoir Dogs]
03. Pulp Fiction.
04. Bobie Doll and Big Jim Picato, always there with their free advice. they've got pearl handled pistols underneath their vests. Just another day - the nonchalance and "glamour".
05. Gangsters and drugs. The hard stuff comes later.
06-08. I'm really fond of this sequence. It doesn't exactly come off in the listening, but I still think it's pretty cool. Dylan's creepy and haunting observations of what could be the Devil or Death; scary motherfucker SLJ wreaking vengeance; "Days Of Wrath" - describes the day of judgment, the last trumpet summoning souls before the throne of God, where the saved will be delivered and the unsaved cast into eternal flames. (from Wikipedia, because I'm rubbish at explaining things.)
10. Used in the final scenes of the first episode of "The Black Donnellys".
11. one... take control of me? yer messing with the enemy. High energy, the-chase-is-on I'll-fuck-you-up music.
12. whiskey-plied voices cried fraticide. Bands of brothers. That line was the inspiration for this mix.
13. they say compassion is a virtue, but i don't have the time.
14-15. Run-ins with the law.
16. well, what's wrong with a little destruction?
17. but your arrogance perplexes me.
18. Okay, so it's actually called "When The Sun Goes Down", but this version -slightly different and better sounding than the album version- is from when they kept changing the name. can see it in his eyes that he's got a nasty plan.
19. Used in Snatch. BEST.
20-21. The tenuous position of mob bosses/godfather etc. But lightly put. And then Nick Cave's lovely cover of "Let It Be". Catholicism and the search for forgiveness.

That's life, that's what all the people say.
You're riding high in April,
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune,
When I'm back on top, back on top in June.

22. I knew for certain I wanted to end with this, another piece of Christian (Catholic?) liturgy. Lord have mercy; Christ have mercy; Lord have mercy.
23. Bonus track. For the lulz.

Rock Favourites

A selection of my favourites from some of the best rock artists. It includes a few oldies from U2, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, the Police and Cake. It also has the power of the early 90's from Nirvana, Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Then comes the highly successful bands of the post Nirvana era with Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, Radiohead and Green Day. Finally, it has a selection of more recent tunes from bands like Our Lady Peace, Coldplay and Audioslave.

It is my first submitted playlist so enjoy. It has a little bit of every rock has to offer and you're bound to find something to fit your mood.

Where The Streets Have No Name... The Best Of U2

No, U218 doesn't quite cut it. Obviously, there are classics on that CD, some of which had to be left out here. But some of U2's best songs are their most underrated. "The Electric Co.", "Trip Through Your Wires", "In God's Country", and "City of Blinding Lights" are a few that never get the credit they deserve. Here's my list of the most deserving that will instantly hook even the casual fan. Forget their politics, just be absorbed by their music.
