It's that time of year again, where frazzled seniors across America are agonizing over that one special night that celebrates the end of their high school experience. I’m talking about the prom of course and it’s an event that is dreaded as well as embraced.

I still remember that day like it just happened. I wore a strapless black gown that had a timeless, classic style because I wanted a dress that I could wear more than once. My boyfriend and I arrived to the hotel in a classic 1965 Mustang convertible. My hair had so much hairspray that even driving out in the open air didn’t affect it. And that night, we celebrated with our friends by eating rubber chicken and dancing the night away to music from Cutting Crew, Berlin, U2, and more. Do you remember that special song; that song that when dancing to it, you and your date got momentarily swept away in the moment? And when hearing that song today, does it take you back?

A good prom song is one where the lyrics hit you in a certain way, and how it reflects on your life. You and your friends are graduating, and as you all come together, that special song is a story that explains who you are.

I’ve culled together a list of prom songs from friends, family, and even some coworkers. I could tell their songs were special just by the way their faces lit up. Some of them regaled me with stories about their prom, while some just smiled wistfully as they remembered that special day. These songs are part of their history. If your prom is coming up, may it be as special and memorable as mine was.
