Here is a playlist of music I was listening to in 1994, trying to capture the best songs of the year. This one has some interesting variation. A new wave of alternative emerged that tried to soften the grunge edge. Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms and Live are examples of this trend. A new wave of alternative emerged that tried to soften the grunge edge. Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms and Live are examples of this trend. Grant Lee Buffalo emerged as one of my favorite bands, ironically opening up for REM, also on the list. I also started following The Samples with interest, but I never felt like they evolved their message and Ska sound. Pavement and Dave Matthews Band became favorites since I used to see them live all the time in Charlottesville, VA.
