My friend Bruce is a hard guy to make mix CDs for. He's a major old school vinyl collector, as well as being pretty up on all the latest sounds. A completist and an obscurist, if you know what I mean. So when we were invited to his place in the country for dinner on Saturday, I set myself a task of surprising him with some quirky new indie (like New Young Pony Club and Gogol Bordello), some unusual covers (Nostalgia 77 and Rock Plaza Central) and to find a couple old obscurities that he might not actually have (Camille Howard and Winston Williams). I think I succeeded, except he didn't seem to have ever heard Justin's SexyBack before. I admire his ability to be both completely in touch with obscure rarities and miss the biggest pop singles.
