Some more memory music. In our first years attending Simon Fraser University (1990-1992), I carpooled almost every day with my friends Jay and Kim from North Vancouver to Burnaby Mountain. Probably the only thing keeping the driver from having a fender bender in morning rush hour traffic was our selection of mixtapes. This was a time when I would buy every import Depeche Mode CD single, and was hearing the first strains of the new Manchester sound (Stone Roses, Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets, Happy Mondays). I know for a fact that we had the full Stone Roses and La's albums to groove along to.
Looking back it is clear that I got as much of a musical education in those years as I did an academic one. And we never did have an accident.
