First and foremost, this is what I believe rap--not hip-hop--is today. It's self-expression, albeit somewhat perverse, through lyrical content, attitutde, SWAGGER, and beat making. Music shouldn't be taken too seriously but the artists behind the music do happen to take it seriously and in that respect, I can associate with what is recorded if a down South artist likes to incessantly yell if they've got a bad-ass demeanor for some reason (like the love of making money; we can all relate).
This is what you call a rap "mix." Born and bred in South Florida, there's a little Miami and a little down South flavor, some New York shit, p*t smoker anthems, and some songs that you can call pure hip-hop such as Dilla's postmortem hit, "Won't Do."
This is essentially a "mix" of different
kinds of rap songs. It's not the quintessential rap mix because it's devoid of old skool, true underground, real hip-hop, or true mainstream music but it offers a look at the down South mixtape game, smoker anthem's, and a taste of unadulterated good beats.
This is what I jam to.
