Innjoy's resident Tuesday night DJ,
DJ Baby Magdalene. The mood and genres are dependent heavily on how much alcohol bar-goers have in their bellies. My working formula is to start with the show's staple -- jangling garage rock -- and then maneuver into darker, '80s punk driven tracks. As the crowd grows drunker I take liberties in playing more distorted, lo-fi garage jams that mesh well with the set's overall high energy. As midnight nears and even more drinks are consumed, we throw a bonified dance party (complete with disco ball!) with new electronic/indie dance gems in the background. Our customers (my dancers) say that they appreciate the use of multiple genres -- as long as the energy's up. I make a point to throw in familiar tracks every half hour so I can be sure to target new listeners. So far it's done the job and every Tuesday at Innjoy is a blast.
