A child walks into a museum with his father. After paying the admission fee, they get through the main door and the kid looks up at his father and asks: "What's that sound?" The father replies: "That is what we used to call music." The son is extremely intrigued about the whole thing and then asks his father what was that sound that suddenly appeared in the middle of the song, and the father replies: "Those are what we used to call guitar solos. Unfortunately, they are now extinct." The son looks up at his father and replies: "Weird!"
In an age where the guitar solo is next to extinct, I’m still amazed when I hear a guitar solo when I go to a concert or when I sit and listen to music. The sheer magic that emanates from a person's psyche and ending with sound coming out of an amplifier is beyond mystical. Even more bewildering was watching the great ones engineer a guitar solo to the point where they didn't even need to sing or say a single word! They didn't need to play a hundred miles an hour. Every note had its role and everything flowed from heaven to soul. I don't know when guitar solos will return as a staple in Rock & Roll, but one thing is for sure; Rock & Roll is not the same without them!
Here is what I believe are the greatest guitar solos ever created by humankind starting with the ultimate one of all, Comfortably Numb. Give it a spin and I hope you enjoy it.
