To me, creating playlists is a kind of creative outlet...a minor form of expression that takes little of my precious time to do, but usually produces something that speaks volumes about what I love about music. Lately, I've been watching a lot of VH1 Classic, and thinking about '80 acts that got no respect after they faded away. Mr. Mister was a band formed by studio musicians, and when the group disbanded, they largely went back to that kind of work. None of them messily self-destructed or married porn stars (I don't think) or showed up on "The Surreal Life"...they all just tried to make a living being quality musicians. Pat Mastelotto (drums and percussion) has had the most visible success, performing with King Crimson for 13 years (and counting), and getting rave reviews for his side projects like Mastica. Steve George (keyboards) and Steve Farris (guitars) have stayed busy behind-the-scenes as session players, though George has been visible working with Kenny Loggins. It surprises me that Richard Page (vocals and bass) hasn't done more solo work, though sadly the two post-Mr. Mister albums (3rd MATINEE with Patrick Leonard, and his solo album SHELTER ME) had little financial success. Page did write a song that was performed by Josh Groban a few years ago...though I am not a Groban fan, so I haven't heard it. Well, those last few rambling sentences represent "Mr. Mister...Where Are They Now?", and the playlist showcases some of my favorite Mr. Mister songs, along with some great pre- and post-Mister work...until next time...Doc X, 5-22-07
