Here are my favorite Indie songs of 2007. The mix is a bit eclectic, but it's got a beat all the way through.
1. Sleeping Lessons: A great song from my favorite album of the year deserves the lead off position for this mix.
2. Double Vision: Everything stands out on this track; guitars, bass, drums, vocals. Another favorite album of 2007. Looking forward to hearing more from The Ponys.
3. Cuts Across The Land: The cover art and the music makes me want to slam a Jager bomb. Nuff said!
4. Sunrise: Tribal music? Dance? Rock? Yes! I can't stop listening to this song at max volume.
5. Behavior Explains: I'm really digging the disco beats in some of the new indie. The 80's revival has now fused with disco. A great melody and beat work in any time period.
6. Heaven: More disco! I can imagine doing the Bus Stop to this one.
7. Into Your Head: A little more mellow now. Atmospheric and a nice lead in to Weird Fishes, if such a thing were possible.
8. Weird Fishes: A close second to favorite album of the year. I'm skeptical of Yorke's often navel-gazing songwriting, but I have to admit this is a fantastic effort. The command and inflections in Thom's voice have reached a new level.
9. 23: Atmospheric with beautiful harmonics. A summer daydream. An "In Rainbows" outtake with a female guest lead?
10. Take Me To The Riot: Simple hook and fun. Surprised it made the list, but I can't put it down.
11. Waiting On The Stairs: Pela is a more indie rock Old 97's. The layered guitars and solid beat stand out. An overall great album.
12. The Well And The Lighthouse: Angry and fun at the same time. Nice guitar work and a solid album.
13. Shadowplay: It would be too easy to get tired of The Killers, but they are still leading the 80's revival and this song is once again a nice balance of 80's synths, guitars and addictive beats. The Killers are dead, long live The Killers.
14. Wet And Rusting: The drums are amazing and the offbeat melody is a huge a hook. The acoustic guitar and piano does not suck either. A real stand out song in 2007.
15. Nantes : Indie, polka, or mariachi? Yes! Beirut is a strange attraction, but I keep coming back for more.
16. New Year: Nice to end 2007 with a "New Year". A nice mellow song.
17. Fake Empire: An anthem in all its glory. Quiet and powerful. Subtle and strong. A fitting end to 2007.
