All the artists compiled in this playlist have lost their lives under similar circumstances. These unfortunate deaths were not only felt on a personal level, but also on an historical level. This is why I have been working on this playlist for quite some time now. The songs chosen for this compilation are not only some of the greatest hits, but they also have certain history associated with them. I obviously started this compilation with the perfect song and ended it with a classic; which was incidentally written for three artists who happen to be included in this compilation. Furthermore, this playlist covers different genres of music for an audience with different preferences.

The musicians are as follows:

Buddy Holly – passed away on February 3, 1959 at the age of 22;

Jiles Perry (J.P.) Richardson, Jr. (The Big Bopper) – passed away on February 3, 1959 at the age of 29;

Ritchie Valens – passed away on February 3, 1959 at the age of 17;

Patsy Cline – passed away on March 5, 1963 at the age of 30;

James Joseph Croce – passed away on September 20, 1973 at the age of 30;

John Denver- passed away on October 12, 1997 at the age of 53;

Ronnie Van Zant – passed away on October 20, 1977 at the age of 29;

Ricky Nelson – passed away on December 31, 1985 at the age of 45;

Otis Redding – passed away on December 10, 1967 at the age of 26;

Jim 'Gentleman Jim'Reeves – passed away on July 31, 1964 at the age of 40;

Randall William "Randy" Rhoads – passed away on March 19, 1982 at the age of 25;

Stephen "Stevie" Ray Vaughan – passed away on August 27, 1990 at the age of 35;

Both Reeves and the pilot of Patsy Cline's ill-fated plane were trained by the same instructor.

Thank you all for the great music!

Nice work! But why are Ozzy Osbourne and Don Mclean on this list?
Submitted by burtonair on Jul. 14, 2007

The Ozzy Osbourne songs are with respect to Randy Rhoads. Rhoads is the guitar player on the various tracks included in the playlist. As for Don Mclean, he wrote American Pie for Holly, Valens and The Big Bopper, hence the lyrics (the day the music died). That is chose that song to end the playlist.

Excellant playlist, very unique and touching. I can see a lot of thought and care went into compilling this, its just all so tragic. The closing song is a Beautiful touch as well. Good list! R.I.P to all these poor souls
