Ten years after the Summer of Love, the ideals of the 60s had failed, and thus gave way to the Summer of Hate. Reality had shattered the dreams of the 60's, and in reaction came the brutal and abrasive sound that was called punk. New York City was suffering from a stifling heat wave, the depredations of a serial killer and was in virtual shambles; while in London, the economy was failing, riots were rampant and the youth were restless. With all ideals receding and conditions wretched, how else to rage against the world but the explosive anger of punk?
