So my mother actually does dance and my father does rock and roll sometimes too.
My father requested no gifts for his upcoming 65th birthday so I made him 2 cd's. He's a music lover that would never admit it but I've heard him sing (in tune and even harmonize sometimes!) and every once in a while he will sheepish ask me to name a song for him that he has heard on the radio.
His taste in music is extremely varied but he is usually more focused on the tune or beat of a song vs. the lyrics. I included some of his old favourites (zz top, the beatles, the mamas and papas) and some more modern music that I thought he might like (natasha beddingfield and feist). Some of the songs included have personal meaning to him such as In the Living Years, which reminds him a lot of his own relationship with his father who died fairly young.
All in all, I thank my father for influencing my varied taste in music and I am proud to have a father who is turning 65 and still loves music enough to appreciate it as a gift.
