Elbow's grandiose whisper rock is a bit murkier and moodier than any of their Coldplay-aping brethren. The Manchester-based group digs deep into its collective mindset and finds that what's inside is not often pretty. Often sounding desperate and disenchanted, the group continuously rises above the moody malaise by providing redemption via brash climaxes, made vivid through sparkling notes and heavenly choruses.
