Having spent most of the 1990s playing in the Weezer-esque power pop band Kara's Flowers, the quartet re-evaluated their musical direction at the start of the new millennium. The band scrapped their straightforward, power chord-friendly sound and adopted a funkier, more textured sound, thanks, in part, to the addition of second guitarist, James Valentine.
